CHABROL
A
stallion that is ‘Graded’ ( selected for
breeding purposes) is required under Trakehners UK rules
to successfully complete an approved performance test
within two years of the grading, otherwise its covering
licence is suspended. There is, however, provision under
the rules for either a total, or partial exemption ‘under
exceptional circumstances’.
Chabrol was graded in Germany, and purchased by the Singing Stud, who left
him in Germany to be prepared for the German State Performance Tests. He successfully
completed the 30 day test, but was withdrawn when injured during his 70 day
test. He was re-submitted for a 70 day test, but was lame throughout, and failed
to meet the required standard by a few marks. At the end of two years his covering
licence was suspended, and his foals were placed in the Preliminary Register.
An application for exemption from further performance test requirements has
been approved by the Committee of the TBF, having obtained documentary evidence
of the history outlined above, and full veterinary reports which clearly state
that Chabrol is not able to be ridden properly in the future.
These circumstances are viewed as ‘exceptional’ under the rules,
and it should be noted that the re-activation of the covering licence of this
stallion comes with a condition that the following statement must be made on
all stallion cards, advertisements etc., as a partial warning to mare owners:
“30 day performance tested in Germany then seriously
injured in 70 day test. Exempted in the UK to further
performance testing due to exceptional circumstances”.
Note:
this is only the second time that such a decision has
been made. The first was Achtermann many years ago.
